About Us

1972 Kavanagh Roofing was founded by Mr. Arthur Kavanagh. Initially he worked on the roofs himself, with his brother Patrick, and took on extra labour as needed. The business was ran from a shed in the back garden of his house.

1979 Arthur and his wife, Mandy, moved to Greenacres, Shaftesbury and they formed the office from which the business was first run from. Gradually over the next three years, as the business grew, Arthur spent less time on the roofs and more time running the office with Mandy. The Kavanagh Family are still actively involved within the firm.

1983Patrick Kavanagh joined the office as Contracts Manager, and two years later Mr. Graham Glaze joined us as an accountant.

1987 The Company "Kavanagh Roofing Limited" was formed and we became members of The National Federation of Roofing Contractors, which provides customers with a guaranteed standard of workmanship. We are the only roofing contractor in this area to have obtained membership. The business has continued to grow from strength to strength; due to Arthur always demanding the very highest of standard from all those involved with the company. Over the years our workforce has increased, and currently we employ approximately 50 workers, many of whom have been with us for a number of years, often starting off as labourers and progressing to become experienced tilers and slaters.

1995 in July Peter May joined the company as Senior Estimator.

1997 in April, in line with many sub-contract based companies, a decision was made to offer all our Sub contractor labour permanent employment. Although this was a dramatic change in the employment status, all of our Sub contract labour accepted employment under the terms offered. As a result of this, we feel we are now in a stronger position to offer major contractor continuity of labour when projects demand this. The business is now one of the largest privately owned roofing companies in the South of England covering a wide area, with a reputation for high quality service and competitive pricing for both its private customers and the building and contracting industries.

1997 Sadly Mr. Arthur Kavanagh died in September 1997 after a long battle against cancer, but he has left behind him a legacy of a well established roofing company with a workforce determined to carry on the business to the standards he set.

2000 the Company moved to new premises at Longmead Industrial Estate in Shaftesbury, which offered larger office space and yard accommodation to accommodate stock and the increasing work load. It had also been a long term aim to move into merchanting, selling roofing products not only to the trade but also the general public and we have been offering this service ever since. This side of the business continues to grow and our location and knowledge of the industry now makes this a key part of our business.

2023 The Company is now managed by Mandy Kavanagh with fellow Directors Graham Glaze dealing with accounts (amongst other things) and Andy Moores with contracting and the general management of the business. We have seen major changes in all aspects of roofing and hope we will be able to embrace all the new challenges we are seeing in an ever changing business especially following the hugely challenging period during Brexit, Covid and subsequent the economic situation.

A*

Just to say thank you... for the great new roof - it will last longer than me now !

I am happy to write an A* review.

Pleased with the end result and the care that was taken

This is just to thank you, rather belatedly, for all the work that you carried out on replacing our roof. We are very pleased with the end result and the care that was taken in carrying out the work.

I would particularly like to thank Adam for his positive approach and care to doing the work in the very wet weather and managing to keep our house dry. It made the works seem less stressful for us knowing that we could rely on him doing the best he could in difficult conditions.

We also found all of your other workers polite and keen to do the best job possible.

Workmanship and Attitude

I need to write to you regarding one of your roofers who attended to our roof recently.

His workmanship and attitude on site was exemplary. The attention to detail and cleanliness of the site when finished was beyond the call of duty. I noticed his lead work when preparing the flashing and must say that the care and finish was extremely professional in every way.

You must be proud to have such a diligent and professional employee carrying out such spendid work.

You will be equally pleased to learn that to date we have not experienced any leakage from the roof that was causing concern.

Excellent Customer Service

Could you please pass on my thanks to Andy Moores and his team of ladies (in the office) and gents, for the way he and they responded to the emergency I had a few weeks ago, when the rain came in through my roof during the night.

Despite the ongoing work and new emergency work caused by the storm, Kavanagh responded to my situation sympathetically and quickly fixed my roof in between huge rainstorms that were still happening.

I am grateful to everyone at Kavanagh for their help and I will be telling my friends of the excellent customer service that I experienced. I am very happy with the estimate and the repair.

The Best Solutions Available

At a time when people seemingly find excuses to moan about everything, I just wanted to pass on to you out heartfelt thanks for the time that Andy [from Kavanagh Roofing] spent with me on Thursday.

Andy listened to our problems, investigated the causes and whilst, ultimately, there was no roofing work involved for you as a company he nonetheless made valid suggestions as to the best solutions available to us.

My dealings with Andy showed me that he is a very knowledgeable and professional individual and rest assured that when we have a problem with our roofing in the future you will always be our first port of call so from a marketing perspective your most recent visit was a complete success!!!

Cheerful and Extremely Helpful

I am a builder (50+ years in the trade). Over the last 9 years I have had the absolute pleasure in buying materials from Kavanagh Roofing (15,000+ tiles, battens, Cromar etc). I firmly believe in making my satisfaction known, otherwise how would you know how your customers feel?

I placed a small order yesterday, William took the call, I want you to know that it is a pleasure phoning Kavanaghs, nothing is ever too much trouble, over the years I have dealt with you I have never known William to be anything other than cheerful and extremely helpful.

I can say the same for your other yard staff, on occasions if I get my wife to call in for materials, they will not let her carry anything, they put whatever she buys in the truck for her.

So thanks to all at Kavanagh for the past unbeatable service, personally it has been a pleasure to deal with you all.
